UB40 (Rock the Castle 2018)
On Saturday 16th June 2018, the world’s most successful reggae band, UB40 are set to rock the castle! With well known hits such as Red Red Wine, I Can’t Help Falling in Love With You, and Kingston Town, it is sure to be a fantastic night.
Formed in the summer of 1978, the band named themselves after an unemployment benefit form, and began rehearsing in a Birmingham basement. In the 80s and 90s, UB40 filled the charts, and reignited the global popularity of reggae. After nearly four decades of success, UB40 are a household name and considered one of the biggest UK music acts of all time, having had more than 50 singles in the UK Singles Charts, and sold over 70 million records worldwide.
Today the band remain a headline fixture at festivals, and continue to tour internationally. Still made up of their key founding members, with the exception of lead singer Ali Campbell’s replacement by his brother, Duncan Campbell, in 2008, UB40 are Robin Campbell (co-lead vocals and guitar), Duncan Campbell (lead vocals) Earl Falconer (bass, vocal), Brian Travers (sax and keyboards), Jimmy Brown (drums), Norman Hassan (percussion, vocals). The band also features Martin Meredith (sax) and Lawrence Parry (trumpet), who have both been in UB40’s touring line-up for over twenty years, and Tony Mullins (keyboards), creating a genre-defining synergy of horns and rhythm section that are uniquely UB40.
